Bird Eye Chilli

Longi Mirch is a variety of Bird eye chilli predominantly found in the South East Asian region. It is also popular by other names such as Thai Chili, Piri Piri  etc. The chilies are green in colour in earlier stages, but turns red when matured and ripe. 

In India, bird eye chili is vastly found in Northeast India, , mainly in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura.  They comes in many varieties like Mizo Chilli or Longi Mirch , smaller sizes, medium size etc. The Longi Mirch found in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is a bit fatter in size, as compared to the ones found in Mizoram and Tripura.  The main characteristics of this chilli is when ground the powder becomes yellowish. 

Just like Ghost Pepper & Dalle Khursani Chili, Bird eye chili is also counted as one of the  hot chili peppers varieties from Northeast India. The SHU of this chili found in this region is almost 1 lacs – 1.25 lacs units.
